The April 2023 issue of Japan’s Art Collectors’ magazine devoted a feature, “The Aesthetics of Emotion,” to the female figure as rendered by contemporary realist painters — some seeking the sitter’s inner feeling, some using pose to convey a mood or idea, others treating the body purely as matter to be reconstructed in colour and form within the constraints of painting. Presenting these works side by side, the feature invites the reader to look past facial expression to the way posture and atmosphere carry emotion. Lo Chan Peng was among those selected.
