The Kaohsiung Award is one of Taiwan’s benchmark competitions in contemporary art. In 2008, the young Lo Chan Peng received the honour for the hyper-real photorealism of his “Strawberry Generation” series, and his work was chosen as the prize’s main visual that year, appearing on the promotional poster and the catalogue cover.

The “Strawberry Generation” series answers, in a palette of youthful pink, the label society had pinned on the young, recording and reflecting on the subculture of his own generation. The recognition of the Kaohsiung Award was one of the important starting points from which Lo would later step onto the international stage.
